The Cleveland Indians faced off against the Arizona Diamondbacks in a Major League Baseball (MLB) game. The game took place at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, and was the first meeting between the two teams in the 2022 season.

The Cleveland Indians, who are now known as the Cleveland Guardians, have a storied history in the MLB. The team was founded in 1901 and has won two World Series championships, in 1920 and 1948. The Arizona Diamondbacks, on the other hand, were founded in 1998 and have won one World Series championship, in 2001.

Heading into the May 14th matchup, the Cleveland Guardians had a record of 21-15, good for second place in the American League Central division. The Arizona Diamondbacks, meanwhile, had a record of 13-24, which put them in last place in the National League West division.

The starting pitchers for the game were Shane Bieber for the Cleveland Guardians and Madison Bumgarner for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Bieber, who won the American League Cy Young Award in 2020, was off to a strong start in the 2022 season. He had a 4-1 record with a 2.22 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 44.2 innings pitched. Bumgarner, a former World Series MVP with the San Francisco Giants, was struggling in the early part of the 2022 season. He had a 1-4 record with a 7.36 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 29.1 innings pitched.

The game started off well for the Cleveland Guardians, who scored two runs in the top of the first inning. After leadoff hitter Myles Straw reached base on an error, Jose Ramirez hit a two-run home run to give Cleveland an early lead. The Arizona Diamondbacks responded in the bottom of the second inning when Tim Locastro hit a solo home run to make it a 2-1 game.

In the top of the third inning, Cleveland extended their lead to 4-1 when Ramirez hit his second home run of the game, this time a two-run shot. The Diamondbacks cut into the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Carson Kelly hit a solo home run to make it a 4-2 game.

The score remained 4-2 until the top of the eighth inning, when Cleveland scored three runs to put the game out of reach. After Straw reached base on an infield single, Ramirez hit a double to score him and extend the lead to 5-2. Eddie Rosario then hit a two-run home run to make it a 7-2 game.

Bumgarner was removed from the game after giving up the home run to Rosario. He finished the day with a line of 7.0 innings pitched, seven hits, seven runs (six earned), and five strikeouts. Bieber, on the other hand, was dominant. He pitched 7.0 innings, giving up just two runs on four hits while striking out eight.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Diamondbacks managed to score a run off Cleveland reliever James Karinchak, but it was too little, too late. Cleveland won the game by a final score of 7-3.

Ramirez was the star of the game for Cleveland, going 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI. Rosario also had a strong game, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Locastro was the standout for the Diamondbacks, going 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk.
